Mathew Holtmeier is Assistant Professor and co-director of the Film Studies program at East Tennessee State University. His research interests include the production of political subjectivity and bioregional media. His book Contemporary Political Cinema, with Edinburgh University Press, argues that the political films emerging on the global film festival circuit since the 1990s mark a shift in cinematic strategies for critically addressing dominant, militant, or otherwise repressive ideologies, based on the fragmentation of subjectivity. On environmental media, he has published in journals including Screen, Studies in the Humanities, and the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture.
