Ezra Claverie

Ezra Claverie holds the rank of Lecturer in the Writing Program at NYU Shanghai. His primary research focuses on conglomerate Hollywood’s conversion of comic-book superheroes into multimedia brands, but he has also published on the regional film industry in Wilmington, North Carolina (aka Wilmywood), and on the fandom of pulp writer H. P. Lovecraft among white nationalists. In 2018 he won the Carl Bode Award for Outstanding Article Published in The Journal of American Culture for “Ambiguous Mr. Fox: Black Actors and Interest Convergence in the Superhero Film.” His teaching interests include transmedia adaptation, audio drama, Hong Kong cinema, and Mainland Chinese science fiction.
