María Mercedes Vázquez Vázquez
I am a teacher and researcher in Film and Cultural Studies specializing in Latin American audiovisual cultures and I am professionally based in Asia. My research interests range from studies with established traditions in film scholarship such as class and gender representations on the screen, to newer trends in research like the study of East Asian migrations to the Americas and their visual representation, or the use of immersive realities for art creation and teaching, among others. I am experienced in teacher coordination and foreign language teaching, and the curation of film and sociocultural events co-organized with numerous organizations. My intercultural competence across different cultures allows me to collaborate fluidly with partners across the West, the East and “the rest of the world” often, which allows me to adopt a necessary global perspective to the study of cultures.
